Apprentice Lineman Website Hopes to Help Lineman put out of Work During Recession

Less than a year ago power companies, co-ops and cities in need of powerline utility workers couldn’t find enough highly skilled workers to fill the thousands of open positions across the United States. Apprentice Lineman coming out of schools weren’t being produced fast enough and most, if not all of those who were attending vocational schools to learn powerline work were employed just days after graduation. In 2008, as the economy slipped, the budgets for powerline work started being cut, leaving thousands of highly skilled powerlineman and powerline apprentices without work.

Early 2009 didn’t see a change in the trend of laying off lineman, but cities and co-ops started to feel the effects of having less man-power readily available to mobilize in the event of storms which took out power to thousands of homes all over the United States. Much needed repairs to old and deteriorating powerlines has gone unattended and the waiting list for new powerlines which are needed for new subdivisions and homes has grown.

“In 2008 and early 2009 Apprentice Lineman Jobs had nearly disappeared, but we are beginning to see a rebound in the need for these positions as the economy has begun to grow. We fully expect to see a shortage of lineman, especially apprentice lineman, by the end of the year,” stated Apprentice Lineman Jobs owner Krista Conway.

Krista, a wife of a powerlineman, says she build ApprenticeLinemanJobs.com after realizing that many of the men her husband use to work with were losing their jobs and many of the high school students enrolled in powerline programs at the local vocational school were looking at graduating with no job prospects. “Last year my husband had an apprentice lineman come to work with him two days after graduation. The 18-year-old had shadowed for the company my husband worked for and he had a job waiting for him on the day he graduated. I don’t see that happening for to many young lineman this impending graduation year, but hope that most of them will find work as the economy turns around.”

ApprenticeLinemanJobs.com offers free profiles and resume posting for lineman who are seeking employment. They are also working on adding many additional features to the site such as a resume guide and additional resources lineman can use to aid in their job search. The website also features many high-tech resources such as the ability for lineman to post a video resume in addition to a traditional word file resume.
